Missing Luv
a pompous bear
Earlier, Anna met a bear-like creature named Luv in a dream. And she had hoped to see him again -- maybe even the next night. But night after night, her dreams were about other things.
One morning, she decided she wanted to see Luv that night. And she thought maybe if she did what she did before, he'd show up. So that day, she spent some time wishing for Luv to appear and recalling what it was like when he did appear.
By luck, her father decided to watch a science fiction movie that night. And she asked "Please! Please! Can I watch too?" Since her parents saw how important it was to her, they let her stay up late and watch. Besides they figured she'd fall asleep anyway. And that's just what she planned to do. And that's just what she did do.
Anna found herself in what seemed like the same garden as before, with white chalk colored earth, red grass and so forth. She looked all over the garden, but Luv was nowhere to be found. Finally, she sat down on the red grass or whatever it was. And once again, Luv came from behind the flowers and sat down next to her. She said "How did you do that?"
"Do what?" said Luv, "I didn't do anything special. I just walked over and sat down."
"No! No!", said Anna, "How did you appear in the garden? I looked all over the garden very carefully, and you weren't there. I sat down, and you appeared. How did you do that?"
"Well, maybe I was there, and you didn't see me. Maybe I'm better at hiding than you are at seeking. Besides weren't you wishing that I would show up? I thought I was invited. Was I wrong?"
"Oh no!" said Anna. "You were quite right. I'm most pleased you came. Never mind my silly question. I'm just glad you are here." But she didn't really think her question was silly. She was quite sure it was an excellent question.
"Well, thank you!" said the bear. Pardon me if I seem a bit gruff today, but I'm very busy. And besides us bear-like creatures are often gruff. But I do have time to answer one question. And the question I've decided to answer is "Is Luv a he or a she?" He then paused thoughtfully as if he needed time to reflect on the question.
Anna was a bit miffed that she didn't get to choose the question. She thought herself quite good at asking questions and wanted to show off. But she had been assuming Luv was a he and wondering if she was correct. So she did want to know the answer.
Luv interrupted Anna's musings by suggesting "You may now ask me if I am a he or a she."
Anna thought this quite ridiculous. If he was going to choose the question, he had a lot of nerve expecting her to ask it. In that moment, she thought him a very pompous bear. And impolite as well. But she did wonder "He or she?"
Just then Luv said "He!" and disappeared.
And then Anna found herself getting up and heading to the bathroom to wash up for the day ahead.
All day she had thoughts of what a pompous, impolite, evasive bear Luv was. But she had many more questions to ask Luv. She found it quite annoying that he would disappear so suddenly. And she missed him, just a little.
