Because then a family of people who are members would all get the badge for just 1 cat.
When only 1 person actually took the effort to submit the picture and write the story.

I would rather have [Lilith]'s and [Hedda]'s opinion on this and that's why I left the question open.

We really can't run around looking for all co owners to each cat. 1 person enters the cat, 1 person gets the badge.
